South Australians have spoken: the Community Climate Conversations Report sets out what should be done to address climate change and who needs to take what actions.

The Report is based on the insights, opinions and ideas of more than 750 South Australians from all walks of life.

They took part in 114 Community Climate Conversations across the State in 2023 to discuss what needs to be done to achieve the government’s target of net zero emissions by 2050.

The Report, based on their input, provides the foundation for stronger action on climate change by governments, communities, industry and business.

The Report shows there is strong support for urgent action.

A clear majority of South Australians want to see stronger action on climate change.

SA has a lot to gain by taking action and we are well-placed to improve our climate future and build a new economy powered by clean energy.

The time is right and SA is the ideal place to demonstrate what states can do. We are already leading in clean electricity and we have a track record in bipartisan approaches to climate and energy policy.

South Australians for Climate Action has completed its mandate and has wound up.

We began as a conversation around a kitchen table in 2021 among a small, non-partisan group of friends and colleagues who wanted to see SA respond more effectively to the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss.

In March 2022, we published a Statement on Climate Change and Biodiversity Protection, which set out priorities for action by the incoming government to protect the community, economy and environment from climate change. These priorities were endorsed by 109 SA businesses and organisations and more than 80 individual leaders from all sectors of economic and social life.

In 2024 we wound up South Australians for Climate Action as a community project. We thank Conservation SA for providing an auspice for our work. As individuals, we will support their ongoing efforts to act on climate change and biodiversity protection in our State.
